Make a photo stop at the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, marked at one end by the impressive water feature that is the Bourke's Luck Potholes and at the other by the enormous Three Rondavels. Take game drives through the Kruger, where Africa's Big Five abound. | | Days 3-4 | Maputo | Spend time soaking up the charm of Maputo, Mozambique's Mediterranean-flavoured capital. Stroll along wide streets lined with colourful jacaranda and flame trees, head to the beach to take a dip or explore the vibrant markets. At the end of each day, why not find an atmospheric cafe to try some of Maputo's famed fresh seafood, washed down with a chilled local beer? | | Day 5 | Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary | Enter Swaziland, a kingdom set on the slopes of the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains. Although tiny by African standards, Swaziland is jam-packed with a rich culture, warm smiles and stunning vistas. A taste of local culture can be had at a tribal dance performance and the scenic Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is the perfect place for a peaceful night, sleeping amid antelopes and zebras. | | Days 6-7 | Hluhluwe Game Reserve/Durban | Back in South Africa pass through the homeland of Zulu tribespeople and spend a night in the beautiful St Lucia Region. Visit the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, a sanctuary where some 370 black rhinos flourish, then travel down the coast to discover the glitzy attractions of seaside Durban. | | Days 8-9 | Cintsa | A relatively untamed region of rugged cliffs and remote coves, Transkei is aptly nicknamed the Wild Coast. The Xhosa people who inhabit this region are still deeply rooted in tribal traditions and customs. Chill-out on the beaches of charming Cintsa or grab the chance to try some hiking, canoeing or surfing. | | Days 10-12 | Addo Elephant National Park/Knysna | Travel along the scenic Garden Route to the Addo Elephant National Park, a successful conservation project. Take a safari into the Addo, where elephants are abundant and busy dung beetles have right of way over traffic on the roads. Superb stretches of coast are uncovered on treks through Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park, where ancient forests meet the pounding Indian Ocean. Stay in quaint Knysna, perched on the edge of a dreamy lagoon. | | Days 13-14 | Oudtshoorn/Cape Town | Visit the undisputed ostrich capital of the world before raising a glass of the Cape Region's finest to toast to a fantastic adventure. |
